Alan Edward Kelley

February 6, 1941 — November 6, 2021

On November 6, 2021, Alan Edward Kelley, 80, peacefully, with family at his side, took off on his last and forever fishing trip. He was born at Chicago, IL, February 6, 1941, the son of Harold Ferguson and Gladys Bernice (Peterson) Kelley. Alan succumbed to a long struggle with rheumatoid arthritis and finally myelofibrosis.

Alan’s childhood was in Elmhurst, IL. In 1963 he graduated from University of Illinois, College of Pharmacy. He worked as a pharmacist in Oak Park, IL until 1965 when he and his wife, whom he married in 1963, moved to Stevensville, MT. He worked at Skaggs Pharmacy in Missoula and then became owner of Valley Drug in Stevensville, MT from 1968 through 1990. Alan was active in local civic affairs, a member of Ravalli County planning board and was a Past Master of the Stevensville Masonic Lodge. He lived in Stevensville for 48 years and had lived near Seeley Lake for the past 8 years.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janice Overbey Kelley, 3 sons, Gregory (Tracie) of Boise ID, Curtis (Melinda) of Laurel, MT and Dwight (Erin) of Seeley Lake, MT. There are 6 grandchildren, Kale, Kayla, Kaitlyn, Megan, Teal, Keldon and two sisters; Judith Kelley and Nancy Burke. He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Madeline.

Alan liked people, conversing with everyone, coffee breaks and happy hour. His most avid interests were boats and fishing. He spent winter and summer fishing in MT rivers and lakes. Influence of neighbors led him to venture to ocean fishing off the coasts of WA and BC. Eventually he owned a boat & home in Sitka, AK where he spent many summers fishing, shrimping and crabbing.

The family wishes to express gratitude to the Seeley Lake Fire Department ambulance service for their efficient assistance, to Hestia Hospice for their compassionate care and to Dr. Sarah Scott.

No service is planned at this time.
