Amanda Anne Moffett Frey April 8, 1980 – April 10, 2026
Amanda Anne Moffett Frey, lovingly known as Mandy, passed away on April 10, 2026, just two days after celebrating her 46th birthday. She left this world with her family at her side, doing something she loved, with the same sense of adventure, curiosity, and joy that shaped her entire life. Mandy lived with her whole heart, and she gave that heart freely to the people around her.
Mandy was born on April 8, 1980, in Missoula, Montana, to Patrice and Jack Moffett. From the moment she arrived, she brought a spark of energy into the family. Her big sister, Alissa, welcomed her with pride and excitement, and the two quickly became inseparable. They shared everything growing up—clothes, secrets, laughter, and a bond that only deepened with time. Seven years later, their brother Andy was born, and Mandy embraced being a big sister with enthusiasm and tenderness. The three siblings grew up with a closeness that carried into adulthood, always showing up for one another.
Mandy attended Sentinel High School and later graduated with honors from the University of Montana, earning bachelor's degrees in Spanish and Psychology. Her love of language and culture led her to spend a semester abroad in Spain, an experience that shaped her worldview and deepened her love of travel. She enjoyed exploring new places, meeting new people, and discovering the beauty of the world. She especially loved the ocean, where she felt peaceful and alive, and she found joy hiking Montana’s trails and adventuring in places like Moab, where the red rock landscapes matched her bold spirit.
Still unsure of her next step after graduation, Mandy applied to the University of Montana School of Pharmacy. When she was accepted, she committed herself fully and went on to earn her Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) with honors. Her intelligence, work ethic, and compassion made her a natural fit for the profession.
During her years in school, Mandy worked a variety of jobs, but one in particular changed the course of her life. While working as a cashier at Orange Street Food Farm, she met Travis Frey in the summer of 2000. Their connection was easy and genuine—the kind that grows quietly and then becomes everything. They were married on Flag Day, June 14, 2008, a date Travis always joked was impossible to forget. Their wedding at the Frey Ranch was filled with laughter, family, and the simple joy that suited them perfectly. Mandy insisted on having a flower girl, and her niece Anna Grimm proudly took on the role, a memory the family still treasures.
Mandy adored her nieces, Anna and Chloe. She told them she loved them often, and she meant it every time. The girls loved visiting her home, where they were greeted by Mandy’s pets—two cats and a black lab—who were spoiled with affection. Mandy adored her animals, and they adored her right back. She had a gentle way with every creature she cared for, and her pets were truly part of her family.
Mandy had a big heart in every sense. She was generous with her time, her attention, and her kindness. She was the person who remembered birthdays, checked in when someone was having a hard day, and offered help before anyone had to ask. Her generosity was quiet and steady, the kind that made people feel seen and cared for.
The greatest joy of Mandy’s life came with the arrival of her two sons, Asher and Alex. She called them her “best boys,” and she meant it with every fiber of her being. Mandy embraced the wild, noisy, joyful chaos of raising two energetic boys. She loved their curiosity, their humor, their big feelings, and their endless energy. She was the mom who got down on the floor to play, cheered the loudest, hugged the tightest, and loved without hesitation. Her boys were her heart.
Mandy is survived by her husband, Travis; her sons, Asher and Alex; her parents, Patrice and Jack Moffett; her brother, Andy Moffett; her sister, Alissa Grimm, and her husband, Tyler; and her beloved nieces, Anna and Chloe Grimm.
She will be remembered for her bright spirit, adventurous heart, generosity, love for her animals, and deep devotion to her family. Mandy lived fully and loved deeply. Her legacy lives on in her boys, in the family who adored her, and in the countless lives she touched simply by being herself.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Garden City Funeral Home on June 13 at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and honor Mandy in the joyful, heartfelt way she lived.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Mandy’s memory to Grand County Sheriff's Department Search and Rescue, an extraordinary group of volunteers who were there when we needed them the most, or to one of the local animal rescue organizations in Missoula, such as Animeals.
