The family has requested you join them for a casual gathering to celebrate Bill's life. Whether you knew Bill as a child or are a newer spin class friend, all are welcome. A lunch will be provided.
Bill C. Sager, age 77, of Lolo, Montana passed away Sunday night September 27, at his home on Mount Lolo near Lolo, Montana with his two canine companions Jake and Cooper by his side.
Born April 25, 1949, in Bozeman, Montana as the second son of H.B. Sager and Clara Mae Cloninger Sager. He grew up and attended elementary and high school in Bozeman, graduating third in his high school class of over 300 students. He was a recipient of a Chemical Engineering Scholarship and attended Montana State University and received a degree in June 1971. Bill later received the Professional Engineer (PE) license (often referred to as PE certification) which is the highest standard of competence in the engineering field. This certification grants engineers the legal authority to sign and seal engineering plans, prepare public works designs, offer consulting services directly to the public, and act as an expert witness. He was immensely proud of his patents and his work as a chemical engineer
He worked for Dow Chemical for over 26 years in various positions mainly as a chemist on new projects including insecticides, solvents, and filtration membranes used in dialysis and enjoyed his travel to many countries in the world. He took an early buyout in 1997 and moved to his dream home in western Montana after spending months traveling to many western states finally settling near Lolo, Montana.
During his time with Dow headquarters in Midland, Michigan and Antioch, California, two children were born: daughter Jennifer, born in 1973 of Knoxville, Tennessee and son Jason, born in 1976 of Opelika, Alabama to Kathy and Bill Sager.
Having many hobbies in woodworking and other skills after retirement, spending years building children's playground equipment, and he often did projects for other needs while building his super woodworking shop at home.
He thoroughly enjoyed being a "mountain man in the west" and often with family members was referred to as the Mount Lolo Hermit.
Bill is survived by his older brother Dr. Bob Sager of White Sulphur Springs, Montana and his two children Jason Sager (Bridget) and Jennifer Pumphrey (Dennis) and grandchildren, Stephania, Shaelynn, Libby and Samuel, as well as two great-grandchildren, Oaklen and Hazel. He was preceded in death by his parents and five older half-brothers and sisters.
While not a church follower he lived his life by the Christian Faith and continued to be a loving and valuable father, grandfather, and friend to many in the local community and his buddies at Spin Class at the gym the past few years.
His memory will be loved and remembered by his family as a great supporting father and grandfather, and his epitaph would say "well done my good and faithful servant" in God's eyes.
