Carol Jean Poel, 84, of Missoula, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 7th, 2021, at Riverside Rehabilitation Center.
On June 28th, 1937, she was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Stanley and Ruby (Louzon) Garrick. Her parents passed away before the age of 11 months, and she was adopted by her Uncle and Aunt, Eugene and Phyllis Springen, and moved to Gillette, Wyoming. She grew up on a ranch, loved her horses, enjoyed riding her horse to school every day, and lived a ranch life. She graduated from Campbell County High School. After high school, she attended the University of Wyoming. While there, she met Bobby Craver, they dated and were married on October 17th, 1958. Bobby and Carol had two beautiful daughters, Linda (Murray) and Brenda (Clouser).
After the marriage dissolved, she left Wyoming to explore new opportunities in California, where she finished her teaching degree. She became a teacher’s aide in the special education department at Ramona High School. While in California, she also met the true love of her life, John Poel. They spent many years in Ramona, California, tending to an expansive garden, going to the Wild Animal Park and ocean, enjoying their new expanded family and the fantastic weather. The two of them also traveled the world together. Carol and John also dedicated their lives to the Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church. After John’s death, Carol decided to move to Montana to be closer to immediate family members.
Carol was a loving mother, wife, and grandmother. She also took great care of her friends, church, and family. Carol was always willing to help others. She loved flowers, butterflies, her pets, reading, and life.
Survivors include her two daughters and their families, Linda (Andrew) Murray and Brenda (Mitchel) Clouser. Surviving grandchildren include Bryan Clouser, Ariel (Peter) Cornelius, Matthew (Kara) Clouser. Great-grandchildren Oriane, Seraphine, Kiera, Elizabeth, Aurora, and Liam.
The Funeral is Sunday, December 12th, 2021, at 3 pm at Garden City Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Ramona, California. Online condolences may be left at gardencityfh.com.
