March 4, 1942 — October 24, 2021

Carolyn Jean Tompkins, 79, of Missoula passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021 at St. Patrick Hospital. A memorial service will be held by the family at Waypoint Church, 1100 S. Higgins Ave, Missoula MT, Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 3:00pm. Memorials may be directed to Waypoint Church and online condolences can be left at gardencityfh.com.

Carolyn Jean Tompkins, daughter of Harry and Hulda (Hice) White, was born March 4, 1942 in Neptune, New Jersey. She graduated from Rahway High School. Carolyn was united in marriage with Robert Curtis Tompkins. She was a devoted member of the Grace United Methodist Church and Western Montana Walk to Emmaus. Carolyn worked as a terminal manager for USF Reddaway, Montana Rail Link, and Missoula Federal CU later in life.

Church was a huge part of Carolyn’s life; she had a true passion for helping people, especially through difficult times. She also enjoyed helping with the Hellgate Lunch Program. Carolyn lived with her best friend and sister-in-law Dot Karns after they both lost their husbands. Many times, they could be found hosting, or supporting fellow Christians in a multitude of functions. The two were attached at the hip, until Dot’s passing. Carolyn also found a devoted friend in Diana Gage, and the two enjoyed countless trips and adventures, whether local or abroad. Above all else, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who cherished nothing more than the time spent with her family and friends.

Left to cherish Carolyn’s memory are her son, Tom (Sari) Tompkins; grandchildren, T.C. (Eslie) Trottier; Tiffany (Abby Watson) Tompkins; Madison Tompkins; Jordin Stevens; sister, Marilyn (Tucker) Buchan; her nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and all people she touched though church related functions in her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Hulda White; husband, Bob Tompkins; son, Bobby Tompkins, and brother and sister in-laws, Bill and Dot Karns.
