Clark Edward Conrow, 84, of Superior, Montana, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Clark was born on October 31, 1941, in Whitehall, MT, to Edward R. Conrow and Frances “Babe” VanSlette. He and his family moved all over Montana and Idaho chasing gold and silver during his early years, settled in Butte, MT where he attended elementary school and finally Sheridan, MT became home.
He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1960 and went on to attend Western Montana College in Dillon, MT, graduating in 1965 with a double major in English and Science.
Shortly after college, Clark met the love of his life, Shirley Branning, in a way only Clark could manage, by whistling and calling out “Hey beautiful” from the window of his Chevy Super Sport in the streets of Virgina City. The two were married on December 23, 1967, in the Methodist Church in Superior, MT, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with laughter, adventure, and love.
Clark and Shirley first lived in Alberton, MT, then spent several memorable years on the island of Oahu before settling in Superior, where they built their life and raised their three daughters: Stacy, Megan, and Sydny. Clark never missed an opportunity to be present for his girls, following them closely in whatever they set their hearts to.
Clark devoted his career to education and mentorship. He worked as an English teacher, Science teacher, and coach, touching the lives of countless students along the way. During the summers, he worked with the U.S. Forest Service as a fire dispatcher and fuels technician, traveling throughout the United States and forming lifelong friendships. One of his greatest accomplishments was developing the curriculum for Outdoor School at Savenac Tree Nursery, where generations of sixth-grade students still spend a week learning about and appreciating the great outdoors and combined both of his chosen professions.
A natural storyteller, Clark, had a gift for sharing stories, some more believable than others. He was a self-proclaimed geologist who spent many days exploring the Ruby Valley in search of Native American artifacts. Clark loved sports of every kind. He began coaching basketball in Alberton, then later working for the YMCA in Waianae, HI giving students opportunities to participate in basketball and track. Upon his move to Superior he coached basketball, football and track, but found his love for wrestling. He was so proud to be able to develop and write the bylaws for what is now Little Guy Wrestling; which all of his grandsons and one of his great granddaughters were able to participate. He finished his wrestling coaching career in Superior, MT where he coached for many years alongside his close friends Bob Kinney and Gary Tourtelotte.
Clark not only loved coaching, but he loved watching his children and grandchildren compete even more. He was a dedicated fan, often found cheering loudly from the stands or down on his knees at the edge of the mat. In later years, he discovered a new pastime online, where he became known for playful trolling of Montana State fans and Griz naysayers on eGriz.com before eventually bringing that same enthusiasm to Facebook.
He also had a passion for photography and was known for taking senior photos for his students. Clark even built a darkroom in his basement where he spent hours developing film, building wooden picture frames, and capturing memories. Summers often included golf with Shirley and their many friends, and he could never pass up sharing a cold Miller Lite with his buddies, accompanied by plenty of laughter and long conversations. Clark believed deeply in encouraging others. He was a champion of the underdog and a lifelong cheerleader for anyone chasing their dreams. Most of all, Clark loved his family and made sure they always knew it.
Clark was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Conrow, and his parents, Edward R. Conrow and Frances “Babe” VanSlette.
He is survived by his daughters Stacy Conrow-Ververis (Angelo), Superior, Megan Conrow (Mike), Dillon, Sydny Cataldo (Jay), Fish Creek; Grandchildren Alex Conrow (John), Superior, Nicholas Ververis (Brian), Missoula, Kaleb Ververis, Superior, Joshua Harris (Becca), Priest River, Phineas Cataldo, Fish Creek, Madison Mask, Missoula, Bryan Mask, Superior, and Kenzie Snider (Gabe), Ennis; Great Grandchildren Brynly Conrow, Greyson Crawford, Dylan Gallagher, Mack Harris, and Dallas Snider. Clark is also survived by many bonus children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whom he loved as his own.
A celebration of life will be held on April 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Superior High School Gymnasium, with a reception to follow. Guests are encouraged to wear Griz gear, Montana Western gear, or Superior Bobcats apparel. Please leave MSU gear at home and bring stories to share.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Little Guy Wrestling in Clark’s honor.
