Cynthia ‘Cindy’ L. Guthrie, 73, of Lolo, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Hope Hospice Center-Missoula, of Chronic Kidney Disease.
She was born on July 11, 1952, in Devils Lake, ND, to Melvin and Shirley (Carlson) Price. After spending the first 12 years of her life in North Dakota, the family split and she moved to Montana where she eventually graduated from Park Senior High in Livingston, Montana in 1970.
After graduation, she moved to Minnesota where she found what she believed to be the love of her life. In 1972, she married the father of her 4 children, James L Brenna. After owning a diner in Halstead, MN for a short time, they would eventually move to Glasgow, Montana where she spent 10 years raising her family. With a houseful of kids and hopes yet for a better life, she divorced Jim in 1984 and found a life partner in Martin L Guthrie. Marrying Marty in August of 1986, just days before loading up the newly blended family (now totaling 8), a U-haul and the top of a fully loaded station wagon, they began their adventure across the state to Missoula for a fresh start.
Cindy spent a couple years studying Social Work at the University of Montana before leaving to focus on her family. She learned she didn’t need a degree in order to instill morals and positive life skills to her children and eventually, her grandchildren. And that degree certainly was never needed to show her family to live with Jesus in their hearts. One of Cindy’s more heartfelt accomplishment was watching her family grow into a group of successful, loving, thoughtful yet resilient bad-asses! Over the years, she worked part time jobs, but her most meaningful job was as the interim manager of the Joseph Residence in Missoula, a homeless shelter where her and Marty were able to share enough love to help get others back on their feet.
Cindy had a kindness that was infectious and a gentleness that was comforting beyond explanation. To those that knew her best, it was her humor and quick wit that lit up a room. Don’t be fooled, to those that crossed her, she could swear with the best of them! But the truth remains, she was simple and genuinely authentic. Her love for Jesus guided her and everyone she met knew she was the safety net that they needed. There was no such thing as a stranger!
She loved reading, listening to praise and worship music and laughing with family. She loved flowers and always looked forward to the color changes of autumn. Above all, she loved her Lord and Savior!
Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, Shirley Carlson and Melvin Price, her husband Martin L Guthrie, her brother Rory Abraham, and grandparents, and aunts and uncles.
Survivors include; her brother Terry (Renee) Price, her sister Linda (Dan) Martin; her son Matthew (DeDe) Brenna of Missoula, her daughters Miranda Brenna of Missoula, Meghan Brenna of Great Falls, and Katrina (Candy) Logan-Brenna of Missoula; Stepchildren Greg Bordeau of Syracuse, and Amanda Hansen of Missoula; her cherished Grandchildren: Hunter Guthrie, McKayla Guthrie, Trey Bordeau, Kwincy Hansen, Steeler Hansen, Aubrey Bretz, Gwen Brenna, Carson Bretz, Nathan Brenna, Cason Guthrie-Davenport; and never to forget her favorite Granddogs; Aspen, Shelby and Blue. Cindy also leaves behind her own fur baby that loved her dearly, Augustus Mahomey the 3rd., whom she called Gus for short.
