Dale Robert Gelvin, 83 of Missoula, MT passed away in his sleep on Tuesday, April 30, 2025.
Dale was born in Melrose, MN to Grant and Alma Gelvin. Dale had two younger brothers, Duane and Neil. He grew up in North Dakota where his family were wheat farmers. He later attended College in both Minot and Wahpeton but decided that college wasn’t for him at that time, so he moved to Minneapolis, MN. This is where he met his wife, Connie Valentine, while she was attending school with his brother Duane. They were married on July 18, 1964. They then had their two children Scott and Lona while living in Minnesota.
Dale was a jack of all trades and did many different jobs to support his family over the years. In 1978 they decided to move to Missoula to be a support for Connie’s brother Steve’s church.
Dale worked at Selway Manufacturing in Stevensville until his vision started to deteriorate. He was able to go back to school at the University of Montana through Visual Services and graduated with a degree in business finance.
Dale grew up in a musical family and loved to sing. He had been a part of a gospel group in Minnesota.
At church he and his wife Connie started the Hospitality Greeter Ministry at their church. He was also the first “sound man” and with his wife he could always be spotted in a crowd before his legs gave out on him.
Unfortunately, Dale spent the last years unable to see anything but shadows, and unable to walk more than a step or two.
He joined his parents, both brothers, father and mother-in-law, brother-in-law and great-granddaughter Mackenzie Boeshans in Heaven.
He is survived by his wife Connie, son Scott (Laura), daughter Lona, 6 grandchildren, and 7-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Revive Church 2811 Latimer St, Missoula on Saturday, May 17th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Revive Church
