Daniel Chalmers passed away on November 11, 2025, in Missoula, MT with his daughter beside him. He was born on December 19, 1955, in Seattle, Washington and grew up in Butte and Polson, MT. Dan lived a life marked by generosity, quiet bravery, and a deep love for working with his hands-qualities that touched everyone who knew him.
Dan graduated from Polson High School, where he was a member of the choir. Music remained a quiet but meaningful part of his life, especially in the way he showed up for his family. One of the most cherished images of Dan is him sitting proudly at his grandson Kaleb’s concerts, cheering him on as he played the tuba and Bass Trombone
He also served three years in the United States Army, carrying with him a strong sense of duty and service. Those who knew Dan often described him as one of the most genuinely helpful people they’d ever met; steady, capable, and always willing to step in when someone needed him. He had a way of standing beside people, quietly supporting them and cheering them on like their biggest fan.
Dan’s work took him to Pack River Lumber Mill and S.E. Rykoff, where he was known for his skill, reliability, and strong work ethic. It was often in the quieter, everyday moments, though, where his character truly showed, like building bike trailers with his grandson, Kaleb or rebuilding that 1927 Chevy truck with his dearest friend, Lou. He had a natural gift for fixing and creating, and an even greater gift for sharing that time and knowledge with others. He also found joy in fishing, gardening, and hunting, and took pride in the care he put into his yard. From time to time, he even enjoyed the occasional video game to relax and unwind.
Behind the man who gave so much, was a family who meant everything to him. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter; Teresa (Steve), his grandchildren; Kaleb, Lillyan, and Jayden; his sisters Linda Richardson, Sue (Rick) Mitchell, Colleen (Todd) Lammers, and Pamela (Norm) Anderson; his brothers, Max (Marilyn) McEvoy, Kurt Folden, Steve (Wanda) Heintz, Lee (Susie) Heintz, Tony (Eva) Heintz. He’s also survived by Brenda Stinson, with whom he shared many years and two beautiful children. His kindness, dedication, and love will continue through the family and friends he leaves behind.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Irene; his brothers, Roger Chalmers, Bruce McEvoy, and Clint Folden; his sister, Delores (Heintz) Carlson, and his daughter, Heidi; each of whom remains deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Daniel was more than someone who built things with his hands-he built strong relationships and lifted the people around him. To know him was to have a loyal, dependable presence in your life. His kindness and generosity will continue to be felt, remembered, and cherished for years to come.
As we mourn his passing, we honor the life he lived-one filled with love, strength, creativity, and a deep commitment to those he cared about. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved by all.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to honor Dan by tapping into your “inner Dan”; take a moment to help a neighbor or friend, show up for the people you love without expectation, or offer kindness and presence to someone who may need it.
