Obituary

Don D. Kennedy, known to many as “Goose,” 87, of Philipsburg, Montana, passed away on March 22, 2026, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, Montana, of natural causes.

Don was born on November 27, 1938, in Anaconda, Montana, to Basil Kennedy and Elizabeth Twiggs.

In his younger years, he proudly served his country in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

Don married his beloved wife, Marjorie Kennedy, on June 11, 1962. He was deeply passionate about his years in law enforcement and later served as Granite County Sheriff, a role he took immense pride in. He was a true outdoorsman and marksman who found great joy in hunting, camping, motorcycling, and exploring the beautiful backcountry of Philipsburg. He spent many years hunting on horseback and was always willing to lend a hand to friends with ranching work. Don was a member of the Philipsburg Masons and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Dolezal; his mother, Elizabeth Dolezal; his father, Basil Kennedy; and his stepmother, Utahna Kennedy.

Don is survived by his wife, Marjorie Kennedy; his son, Graydon Kennedy (Janet); his daughter, Francee Cote (Dave); his daughter, Kimberly Bradshaw; Jon Johnson, whom he considered like a son; his sister, Karen Dahlke (Larry); his brother, Kal Kennedy (Toni); and his sister, Launa Kennedy. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kamery, Milo, and Kenzi; and his great-grandchildren, Haidyn, Henlie, Emmitt, and Silas.
