Douglas James “Doug” Tilleman passed away peacefully at his home in Lolo, Montana, on April 11, 2026, at the age of 82, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on May 5, 1943, in Chinook, Montana to Charles Nichol Clemens Tilleman and Beulah Elene Willman, Doug was raised in Chinook and graduated from Chinook high school. A gifted athlete, he was named an all American football player and held the 440 track record for decades. He continued his athletic career playing football on scholarship his freshman year at Northern Montana College in Havre, Montana. He later served in the Army National Guard until being medically discharged.

He worked as a meat cutter in grocery stores and later opened a butcher shop in Chinook, Montana.

Doug lived a full and active life, finding joy in hiking, fishing, dancing, camping, boating, gardening, and woodworking.

He was a supporter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Parkinson’s foundation, and the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. He also helped at the local food bank in Lolo distributing food.

Known for his boundless energy, perseverance, and selfless nature, Doug was always willing to lend a hand. His witty sense of humor and his kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Above all, his family was his greatest pride and always his first priority.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Buelah Tilleman, his brothers “Gus”, Frank, Bob, Dick, and Tom.

Doug is survived by his wife, Martha; daughter Brenda (Allen) Sherman; brother John Dwain Tilleman (Betty); granddaughters Cynthia Moe, Danelle Petersen; his stepchildren, Brian Parks and Amy Parks; four step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on April 24, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Florence Carlton Community Church in Florence, Montana, with a reception lunch to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Hospice Center in Missoula, Montana.

Doug will be deeply missed and fondly remembered as a truly good man – one whose generosity, humor, and love for his family will never be forgotten.
