Edna Veronica Murphy, 96, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026, in Dillon, Montana, of natural causes.
Edna was born on October 1, 1929, in New York City to Edward and Mabell Battle. She was raised in New York City and attended high school there. She met her husband, Albert Murphy, there and they were married on June 6, 1951, in Towson Maryland. At the time they were married Al was working as a clerk for the FBI in New York City. He became an agent in 1957, and he and Edna moved to Chicago, then Boise, then Miles City where she took some courses at what was then Custer County Junior College, now Miles Community College, and finally moved to Missoula in 1970.
In 1953, Edna and Al had a son, Edward, commonly known as Rusty, and in 1957 a daughter, Hilary. In addition to Edward and Hilary Johnson she is survived by three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Edna was preceded in death by her beloved husband in November, 1991.
Edna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was also a loving dog owner. While she owned a number of breeds in her life, she settled on West Highland Terriers as her favorite and cared for McDuff for 15 years.
She will be buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Missoula on Friday, March 13 at 10:00 a.m.
