In loving memory of Eleanor Alva Price, who went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 9, 2026, in Missoula, Montana.
Eleanor was born on September 1, 1933, in Dickinson, North Dakota, and grew up in Wibaux, Montana, with her three brothers, Jim, Val, and Danny, and her sister, Helen. They were raised by their mother, Rose, who ran a 10-bedroom boarding house as a single, staunch Catholic mother who modeled hard work, constant prayer, and a deep commitment to serving others. Eleanor was especially close to her brother Jim, and together they worked tirelessly to help their mother run the boarding house.
Growing up in eastern Montana was tough—Montana tough—and this shaped Eleanor’s strength and character. Over the years she held many jobs, and most recently before retirement, she helped operate the Frontier Center convenience store, where she did all the cooking and became known for her tasty gyros.
Eleanor met Edgar L. Price in 1953, and they married in 1955, sharing 63 devoted years together, they loved to spend time on the back porch dancing. They had three sons and six grandchildren, who meant the world to them. During their life together, Eleanor moved more than 25 times around the United States and Montana, all while raising three sons with a husband who traveled frequently for business. She will be remembered for her love, fairness, resilience, steady presence, and the firm but caring discipline she brought to her family.
Neighbors in the Bitterroot Valley and Grant Creek remember Eleanor for the love and kindness she extended to everyone she met; she truly left a wake of loving kindness wherever she went. She was also a dedicated animal lover—from horses to dogs and everything in between. Kindness was her trademark. Eleanor was an incredible, loving mother and grandmother, and her family and friends feel deeply blessed to have had her in their lives for so many years.
Eleanor is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Tom (Sue), Ed (Marie), and Ken (Pam); and by her grandchildren Danielle, Jenny, Michael, Steven, Anthony; brother Jim (Dora) and daughter Kim. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, and her grandson, James. Her family and friends ask for your prayers and for acts of kindness toward one another in her honor.
Mom requested donations to be made in her honor to Humane Society of Western Montana or Missoula Aging Services- Meals on Wheels.
Life celebration will be held Saturday February 7, 1-3 pm at Garden City Funeral Home, Missoula. Burial services will be held on Saturday May 16, at 10 am at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Butte.
