Elsie Dobbins, 98, of Missoula, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, at St. Patrick Hospital surrounded by family.
Elsie was born on June 10, 1927, in Missoula, Montana, to Byron and Emma Chilcote. She attended Whittier Grade School and Missoula County High School before enrolling at the University of Montana, where she met the love of her life, Jack Dobbins, at the “Sweetheart Ball.” They married in September 1949 and shared 60 wonderful years together until Jack’s passing in 2010.
A lifelong Missoulian, Elsie was deeply involved in her community and church. She and her husband were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Missoula from the early days of their married life until her passing. Elsie enjoyed playing golf at the Missoula Country Club. She also belonged to P.E.O., a philanthropic organization she cherished. Elsie was known for her warm hospitality, always ready to welcome family and friends into her home with grace and generosity.
Following Jack’s retirement from his CPA practice, the couple enjoyed dividing their time between Missoula and Arizona, continuing to host and cherish visits from loved ones.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Bill and Ken Chilcote (Elaine) and her son, Bob. She is survived by her son Dick (Kate) of Portland, daughter Jaclynn (Bruce) of Phoenix, daughter-in-law Helen of Ovando, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to her dear neighbors, Dick and Gayle Walton, whose friendship and support allowed Elsie to live independently until shortly before she passed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Missoula on September 20, 2025, at 1:00 pm.
