George Hagel, fondly known as Pat, passed away on March 23, 2026, in Lolo, Montana. Born on March 4, 1942, in Fromberg.
Pat was the son of George and Ann Hagel. He completed his education at Butte High School before joining the Navy right after graduation. His commitment to serving others was a defining trait throughout his life. One of his proudest achievements came in the 1970s when he became the Sheriff of Butte. This role was a testament to his dedication and leadership. After his time as Sheriff, Pat moved to Laural with his wife, Barbara. In his later years, he lived with his daughter Tammy and her husband Scott, enjoying the close company of family.
Pat had a passion for the outdoors and was happiest when fishing or hunting. Beyond these hobbies, he was a master craftsman, known for his skill in building houses and decks. His talents left a lasting impression on those who knew him and on the homes he worked on.
He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Schennum; his son, Pat Hagel; and Kim Kaneshiro. He was also a beloved grandfather to six grandchildren and great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Ann and George Hagel, as well as Gary Hagel and Denise Canalia.
George "Pat" Hagel will be remembered for his service, his skills, and most of all, for the love he shared with his family and friends. His legacy will live on through all those he touched throughout his life.
