Gill Dermott

August 4, 1950 — January 19, 2022

On January 19, 2022, Gilbert Mitchell Dermott entered the presence of Jesus. Gil loved God, his family, and his country. He was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather and was loved by many. Gil was born on August 4, 1950, in Sea Isle City, NJ. After turning 18, Gil began serving his country in the US Air Force. Following his four-year service commitment, he and his family settled in Great Falls, MT, where he continued to serve his country in the Air National Guard. During this time, he served in both Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

His working career was a direct reflection of his interests and desire to learn new things. Throughout his 50-year work career, he was a heavy equipment mechanic, draftsman, welding inspector, rancher, and realtor. He immersed himself in his church community looking for ways to serve and support the ministry of Jesus. In 2010, he and his wife Sherry moved to the Bitterroot Valley to work as a welding inspector and be closer to their kids and grandkids. Gil’s faith and love of history, the outdoors, writing, and baking were infectious to all around him. He was an incredible mentor, friend, and family man and will be missed by all.

Gil was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Tory and stepson Brent Schlimgen. He is survived by his sister Shirley (Austin) from Boise, ID; his loving wife, Sherry Schlimgen Dermott of Lolo; son Gilbert (Erin) & daughter Cameron of Boise, ID; son Ross (Heather) & children Hadley & Ben of Boise, ID; step-children Kevin (Robin) & children Kaitlyn & Zachary of Gilbert, AZ; daughter-in-law Kristy (Scott) & children Drew, Luke, Cora & AJ of Victor, Troy of Missoula; & Jodi (Jarod) & sons Brennon & Callen of Great Falls. Gil was saddened greatly when his best friend, Gracie the chocolate lab, passed in 2019.
