Herman Rolland “Rollie” Worster, 88, of Missoula, Montana, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025. Born on September 5, 1937, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Eileen Halverson Worster and Herman Worster, Rollie lived a life full of laughter, hard work, and love for his family.
Rollie grew up in Lincoln, where his bright spirit and strong work ethic showed from an early age. He attended Teacher’s College High School and Nebraska Wesleyan, where he played basketball and enjoyed pheasant hunting and fishing with his Uncle Pete. As a young boy, he sang in the Methodist church choir—an early glimpse of the beautiful voice that would bring joy to his family and friends throughout his life.
During high school, Rollie worked as a busboy and bagged groceries at the first Piggly Wiggly grocery store to help pay for his private education. In college, he studied business and jokingly shared that he signed up for typing class “because that’s where all the girls were.” When his mother passed away, Rollie left college early to help support his family—a reflection of his loyalty and sense of responsibility that never wavered.
After high school, Rollie worked as a hod carrier beside his father, who was a brick mason, and later as a brakeman for the railroad. He went on to become an entrepreneur with a gift for making good businesses great. He was especially proud of his military service as an infantryman from 1962 to 1964, a period that shaped his character and discipline for life.
In 1980, Rollie married the love of his life, Sherron Worster, and together they built a blended family filled with love and laughter. He is survived by his wife Sherron; his children Randy and Randee Worster of Mesquite, NV; Scott Worster of Missoula, MT; and Susan and Pat Charmichael of Ozark, MO; as well as stepchildren Rick and Debbie Arnold, Steve and Jodi Arnold, and Rebecca and Toby Moore. Rollie was blessed with seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and 17 step-grandchildren with 24 great-grandchildren who all adored him.
Rollie was a consummate sports fan, with a special passion for college basketball—especially when his grandson, Rollie II, was playing for the University of Nebraska. He found joy in his home on Flathead Lake, where he loved hosting family and friends for boat rides. His favorite place was behind the wheel, pulling kids and grandkids on inner tubes and flashing his trademark grin when a rider gave him a thumbs-up.
Rollie also loved to sing karaoke, often performing “Paper Roses” with his beloved Sherron. His deep voice and warm presence could fill a room with joy. He cherished time with family, especially welcoming new babies—his tender smile and soft eyes said more than words ever could.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Eileen Worster, and his brother, Neil Worster. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know him and forever remembered for his humor, generosity, and love of life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Garden City Funeral Home, 1705 W. Broadway St., Missoula, Montana. A viewing will begin at 8:30 a.m., with services following at 9:30 a.m. All who knew and loved Rollie are welcome to join in honoring his remarkable life.
“Forever loved, forever remembered.”
