Hugh Evan Elmore, 88, of Missoula, passed away on March 20th, 2024, at his home, surrounded by family.

He was born on February 26, 1936, at Elmore Hospital in Missoula, to Harold F. "Bud" and Goldie F. Elmore. He graduated from Missoula County High School on June 3, 1954, and joined the Air Force on December 6, 1954. Hugh served as a weatherman in Narsarsuaq, Greenland and then Washington D.C. until his early honorable discharge on September 9, 1958, to attend school at the University of Montana. He met and married Joan Elaine Miller on June 20, 1959. Hugh took and passed the Montana Board of Examiners in Accountancy Exam, receiving his certificate on August 8, 1964. During college he worked for his father, doing bookkeeping for Missoula businesses and bars.

He worked as a CPA in Missoula, Montana until retirement in 2011 most of that time Joan worked alongside him in the various firms.

He was a longstanding member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Hell Gate Lodge #383, in Missoula. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and spending time with family and friends at Flathead Lake drinking Beefeaters gin on the rocks with two olives.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, nine months, Joan, Missoula; daughter Deborah Butler, Helena; son David and his wife Staci, Missoula; granddaughter Devan (Matt) Rowe, Scotch Plains, New Jersey; grandson E. Gage (Brittany) Elmore, great grandson Blake, great granddaughter Maycee, and bonus great grandson Braxton Smith, Lolo, Montana.

A celebration of life will be held at Garden City Funeral Home, 1705 West Broadway, Missoula on June 28, 2024, time TBA; followed by interment at the Western Montana State Veteran's Cemetery, Missoula.
