Iva Lou Griner/Pacini of Missoula, Montana, passed away on October 30, 2026. She was born on March 5, 1924, to Jeneral Jackson Griner and Leah Griner on their farm near Mossy Head, Florida, at the hands of a mid-wife. Iva was a twin and one of ten children. As a child growing up in north Florida, she helped around the family’s cotton and peanut farm by milking the cows and doing manual field work. She attended a one-room elementary school and graduated from Walton High School in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, in 1943. After graduation, she worked as a civilian clerk-typist from 1943-46 in Supply on the Eglin Army-Air Base, near Fort Walton Beach, Florida. During her time at Eglin, she met PFC Nello John Pacini from Black Eagle, Montana. After a whirlwind six-month courtship they were married by a Justice of the Peace in Crestview, Florida. Upon John’s discharge in 1946 they relocated to his home town of Black Eagle, Montana. He took employment with the Anaconda Copper Mining Company (ACM) for the next 39 years in Great Falls, Montana.
Their first son, Paul, was born in 1947. Glenn’s birth followed in 1950. Finally a daughter was born in 1958, Tina Marie. In 1966, after all of the kids were in school, Iva accepted a job as an elementary school secretary in the Great Falls Public School System. She remained there until 1988 at which time she and John choose to spend their retirement in Missoula, Montana, to be near their daughter Tina. Iva enjoyed a variety of hobbies and pass-times such as travel, sewing, quilting, gardening, bowling, and women’s softball in her younger years. She has unwaveringly recorded detailed genealogy data on both her Griner family and the Pacini family.
Iva was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, N. John Pacini in 2009; her parents, Jeneral and Leah Griner; five brothers: Alonzo, Floyd, Esmond, JB, and her twin brother Eugene; as well as two sisters: Corene and Selma Lois. She is survived by: her sister Cleo Everidge of Milton, Florida, her brother Beal Griner of Lake Wales, Florida, her children Paul (and Becky) of Helena, MT, Glenn (and Suzanne) of Great Falls, MT, and Tina Dakolios (and Curt) of Alberton, MT; She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Quinn Pacini of Bozeman, MT, Tyler Pacini of Snohomish, WA, Shane Pacini of Spokane, WA, Lindsey Webster of St. Regis, MT, Brandon Meyers of Kalispell, MT, Ryan Meyers of Missoula, MT, and Stephanie Cullinan of Glendive, MT; She had nine great grandchildren: Khaden Meyers of Missoula, MT, Peyton and Owen Pacini of Spokane, WA, Chloe Untherscher of Seattle WA, Jackson John, Ava, and Brooklyn Pacini of Bozeman, MT, Griffin and Ashtyn Webster of St. Regis, MT, Jules and Jena Cullinan of Glendive, MT, Tenasyn Pacini and a great-great grandchild, Charlotte Joyce of Snohomish, WA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
