Joann Lynn Palmer
Joann Lynn Palmer (née Gallwas), age 71, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, in Missoula, Montana, surrounded by the love of her family.
Joann was born on May 5, 1955, to Fredrick and Dorothy Gallwas. She grew up in Missoula alongside her four sisters: Rusty Plienes, Chris Rakow, Francis Hill, and Patti Cheff.
She attended Sentinel High School. Joann developed a passion for sewing through 4-H and lessons at home with her mother. She created beautiful dresses for her young girls and was known for her ability to bring any design to life. Her children and grandchildren eagerly looked forward to the Halloween costumes she crafted each year. From bears and skunks to cats and countless other animals, her handmade creations brought joy and lasting memories to her family.
On October 1, 1972, she married Tom Palmer, and together they raised four children. Joann and Tom built three homes and remodeled several others, largely through their own hard work and dedication. She was especially talented in interior design and decorative texturing.
Joann was an exceptional baker who loved sharing homemade desserts with family and friends. She will be especially remembered for her delicious cheesecakes.
She cherished traveling with her sisters, spending time exploring new places and creating treasured memories filled with laughter and companionship. Those moments will remain forever in their hearts.
She is survived by her children, Lacey Hendricks (Will), Cynthia Charles (Michael), Benjamin Palmer (Janel), and Matthew Palmer; her grandchildren, Andrew Hendricks, Briana Flath, Alyssa Flath, Emma Palmer, and Nick Palmer; and her great-grandchildren, Miley, Liam, Adley, and Brooklynn Hendricks. She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
Joann was preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick and Dorothy Gallwas, and her grandson, Jonah Hendricks.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Crosspoint Church.
Joann's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Leah Miller and the Hope Hospice House of Missoula for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided to Joann and her family.
