John Stolle

JOHN D STOLLE, 93, a long time Missoula resident passed away at his home 12 Feb 2024. He was born in Tyler, MT on 11 Apr 1930 to Arthur and Hortense (Abbott) Stolle. 

On 7 Jun 1950, he married Treasa Margaret Howell in Lewistown. She passed away in 2003. To their union were born 7 children: Ruth, Carla, Larry, Ronald, Darrell, Loretta and Barbara. On 31 Jul 2004, he married Nelda Joan Anderson.

John worked on the family ranch and the N Bar ranch until he married. John and Treasa made their home in Lewistown. John work for Western Montana Coop; today known as Cenex in Lewistown, Grass Range and Broadview. He moved to Missoula in 1965 continuing to work for Cenex until about 1969 when he went to work for the Missoula County Road Department. John retired in 1992 from the county as a road supervisor.

John loved his family, camping, the outdoors and fishing. The family would load up to go camping on Friday night after John got off work. 

He is survived by his wife; children, Ruth Howerton, Carla Stolle, Larry (Dawn) Stolle, Ronald (Vivian) Stolle, Darrell Stolle, Loretta (Dennis) Lewis and Barbara Jones. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his wife Treasa; his parents; his sister Agnes Sharp; son-in-laws James Howerton and Stefan Jones; daughter-in-law Spring Stolle; a granddaughter and infant grandson.

Garden City Funeral Home of Missoula is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 16, 2024 at 1 pm with a viewing from 11-1 at the funeral home followed by burial at Missoula City Cemetery. A reception to follow at the funeral home.
