Joseph J. Messner, 79, of Arlee, passed into the presence of Jesus on Monday, April 3rd, 2023 in Missoula, MT.
He was born on September 19, 1943, in Anaconda, MT to Lloyd and Esther Messner. He attended the University of Montana graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife Biology and a Master’s Degree in Educational Counseling. He was commissioned into the Army in 1967 and served his country proudly. He taught science classes and eventually was high school counselor in Arlee for 30+ years. After retiring from Arlee High School, he went on teach and counsel at Valley Christian School in Missoula.
On September 5, 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Bain, in Kalispell, MT.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing guitar, gardening, woodworking and photography. Throughout his life, he had an unquenchable desire to learn new things. He led many home Bible studies as well as teaching adult Sunday School for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Esther Messner. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn, Arlee; daughter, Janelle (Mark), Great Falls; son Kevin (Brenda), Arlee; sister Elizabeth Messner, Medicine Hat, Alberta; grandchildren Kristyn Lund; Kyle and Emmy Lund; Kolter Lund; Konner Lund; Tara (Coletin) Trump; and Ty Messner.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the Jocko Valley Baptist Church
(73382 Coldwater Lane, Arlee) at 1:00 pm. All are invited to a reception following the service.
