Joseph Alan Wulfekuhle

Joseph Alan Wulfekuhle, 65, of Missoula and Florence, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Joe was born on May 31, 1956, in Missoula, to Leo and Mattie Wulfekuhle. He grew up in the Orchard Homes neighborhood, attending Hawthorne Elementary School and later Hellgate High School.

From a young age, Joe was the mechanic in the family and the neighborhood, starting his career in the family’s old chicken barn, then moving to the real barn, and later building his dream garage and home. (Yes, the garage came first!) His career included Turmell DeMarois Co., followed by United Parcel Service, and then after 32 years at Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, he retired in 2021. Of course, this didn’t include his numerous side projects, which included vehicle maintenance and repair, irrigation system maintenance, and helping his family and friends with just about anything and everything. No matter the task, you could count on Joe to take it on and do it right, even when he was ill.

Joe and Cindy Combs were married on April 22, 1978. They were blessed with two children, Jamie and Craig.

Joe and Cindy, although divorced in 2009, remained close friends.

Joe’s favorite pastimes included snowmobiling, camping, boating, and driving his Can-Am with friends and family. Every time we light a campfire or take the boat on the lake, he will be with us. When we wonder how something should be done, we know his legacy of taking on any project and doing it right lives on in his children.

Joe will be remembered with much love by Jamie Erbacher of Missoula, her boyfriend Bob Riba, and Craig Wulfekuhle and his wife, Jessie Lundberg, of Missoula. Joe adored his granddaughters, and the feeling was mutual. They will miss Grandpa Joe, but his love and the fun they had will be forever remembered by Jayden, Haley, Bianca and Evalie. In addition to his children, grandchildren, and Cindy.

Joe is survived by his sisters Mary Lou Nelson, Stevensville, Shirley Christiansen, Charlo, Bobby Cruce, Seeley Lake, and brothers Bill Broderick, Parkdale, Oregon, and Tom Wulfekuhle, Billings, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. His parents, brother, George, and sister, Teresa Rose, preceded him in death.

A celebration honoring Joe will be held in the Summer of 2022.
