Joyce Beach Hickethier, a devoted mother, beloved grandmother, and compassionate nurse, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, at the age of 87.
Born on October 7, 1937, in Carrington, North Dakota, Joyce was the middle child of Melvin and Marie Beach. As the daughter of a construction supervisor, she spent her early years in several small towns across Montana before her family settled in Havre when she was 13. She graduated from St. Jude's Grade School, Sentinel High School, and went on to earn her nursing degree from the Columbus School of Nursing, Class of 1958.
Joyce's commitment to service was recognized early in her career when she received the prestigious Mother Gamelin Award-bestowed upon those who exemplify the values of compassion and care for the poor and vulnerable.
She married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Eugene Hickethier on December 27, 1958 and together they raised four children: Kenton, Jeff, Jill, and Keith. Joyce was a deeply devoted mother and grandmother who built her life around faith, service, and family. She is survived by her sister, Mary Francis Roberts of Great Falls, Montana; daughters-in-law and sons-in-law Julie Hickethier, Kim Hickethier, Aaron Fergason, and Dian Hickethier; and her beloved grandchildren: Stefen, Mallory, Kylee, Jenna, Amanda, Josh, Amber, and Kayla. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Reagan, Watson, Walker, Tiberius, Leo, Jackson, Bridger, and Addisyn.
Joyce served the Missoula community as a nurse for over six decades, retiring at the remarkable age of 80. Mended Hearts was always in her heart making valentines for patients each year and giving them to patient around the hospital gave her joy. Red hat Society and her retirement ladies was also in her heart.
Her dedication to caring for others was unwavering, and her presence brought comfort, strength, and kindness to everyone she encountered.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former colleagues, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Garden City Funeral Home. A reception will follow.
