Ken Ostrom was born on April 8, 1945, in Albany, California, to Karl and Gladys Ostrom. In 1948, Ken and his family moved back to Montana, first living in Missoula before settling in Florence in 1954.
In 1974, Ken moved into a group home in Missoula operated by Father George Dumais. Father Dumais lovingly referred to the men in his care as "gentlemen," and Ken enjoyed living there for 35 wonderful years. During this time, Ken began working in the wood shop at Opportunity Resources, where he continued to build friendships and find purpose.
In 2009, Ken moved in with family. During this time, he transitioned to the Senior Team at Opportunity Resources. He enjoyed participating in Special Olympics, bowling, dancing, and many social activities.
In 2016, due to health concerns, Ken moved to Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center. There, he enjoyed exercise, socializing with others, and playing his bongos.
Throughout his life, Ken found happiness in the things he loved most: his family, friends, good food, Montana Griz football, music, western movies, laughter, and telling funny stories. His sense of humor and love of life brought smiles to those around him.
Ken passed away on October 28, 2026, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, Montana, from complications of pneumonia.
Ken will be remembered for his laughter, his stories, his love of family, and the many special moments he shared with those around him. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
