Kevin Lawrence Sailer
Kevin Lawrence Sailer, 64, of Huson MT passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at St. Patrick Hospital after a short but aggressive fight against pancreatic cancer.
He was born on March 29, 1961, in Valley City ND, to Lawrence and Elsbeth “Elsie” Sailer. As he grew up, he worked closely with his dad for the family business Sailer Construction.
On October 11,1980 he married his high school sweetheart Karen Vannurden in Valley City, ND. They lived in Valley City until 1990, when they moved their family to Clinton MT. They later moved to their dream home in Huson MT in 2003. Kevin and Karen celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary last October.
In 1981 he joined the Army National Guard and served for 6 years and then signed with the Army Reserve for 1 year. While serving he was a heavy equipment specialist and earned several medals during his service. He was honorably discharged on January 28, 1988.
Kevin was a master craftsman and worked in varying construction projects throughout his life. He paid high attention to detail and ensured that every project was completed with style and finesse.
Throughout his life he enjoyed many activities. He joined a volleyball league in Valley City and became the captain. He was an avid pool player, winning many individual and team tournaments. After moving to Montana, he continued to play in pool leagues and then joined dart league. He took pride in being a coach. Whether it be baseball or basketball he always put the children first.
After moving to Huson, Kevin and Karen enjoyed many activities together. They had many adventures and trips in the mountains and around Montana. They hiked to many waterfalls, rode bikes on the Hiawatha trail, went canoeing, paddle boating and kayaking. He loved to go camping, hunting and fishing in Montana’s wilderness. He found that praying was the easiest when high up in the mountains.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a great brother, friend and neighbor. He loved the mountains, music, outdoors and his family.
He is preceded in death by his dad and mom Lawrence and Elsie Sailer, grandparents Jack and Lydia Sailer along with grandparents Emil and Adelia Alber.
He is survived by his loving wife Karen, Huson; three children and their families Sonya Bonnet, Missoula, Kristina (Mike) Foster, Spokane, and Donavon (Diana Maedche) Sailer, Missoula; grandchildren Dillan (Kimberlie) Foster, Brenna (Cody) Patrick, Allie Bonnet; and 2 great-grandchildren Izzabella Patrick and Walter Foster. He is also survived by 3 sisters and 3 brothers. Barb (Brian) Kunda, Diane (Dale) Rosenberg, Kathy Hovland, Larry (Danette) Sailer, Scott (Carmen) Sailer, and Jeff Sailer, along with many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be Friday February 27, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. at Garden City Funeral Home. Reception to follow the services onsite.
