LeRoy "Duane" Gumm

Leroy Duane Gumm 1935 - 2025 

LeRoy Duane Gumm passed away on June 27th, 2025, in Missoula, MT at the age of 90 of natural causes.

LeRoy was born on January 19th, 1935, in Tekoa, Washington to Roy and Bertha Gumm. He grew up on a wheat ranch in eastern Washington, attended college at Eastern Washington University and joined the Navy in 1954.

On November 24th, 1957, he married Virginia Whalen in Superior, MT. The couple lived in Cheney Washington before moving to Spokane in 1958, Three Forks, MT in 1962, Missoula in 1967, Stevensville in 1972, and eventually back to Missoula in 1999. Together they raised three children, Rob, Rochelle, and Shawn.

LeRoy enjoyed horseback riding, horse reigning, Quarter horse shows, reading and Griz football. He always had a good story to tell, even if it was made up, and loved to make people laugh. He had a kind heart and a good sense of humor. He was preceded in death by parents Roy and Bertha, sisters Janice and Mary Lou, and son Shawn.

He is survived by his wife Virginia of Missoula, son Rob Gumm, daughter Rochelle Cole, granddaughters Ryann Harris and Reagan (Julian) Gire, and great grandchildren Jonathan, Zoey, Olivia, and Kenobi.
