Mary Margaret Gravning passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on January 12, 2026, following a 9 year journey with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on February 16, 1947, in Pennsylvania to Kenneth and Anna Jenkins.
Mary spent her early years in Pennsylvania before moving to Los Angeles, California at a young age. She worked for many years as a clerk with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and generously gave her time volunteering with church youth groups and youth sports. On February 5, 1966, she married David Lynn Gravning and in 2001, they relocated to Missoula, Montana.
She was very creative and had a strong love of painting. She also had a passion for the outdoors, cherishing time spent outside with her family. Her artistic spirit and fondness for nature left a lasting impression on her children and grandchildren.
Mary will be remembered for her tenacity and strength, as well as for being a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband David, 4 daughters, son, and 5 grandchildren.
Her family will hold a private gathering to celebrate her life later this summer in the mountains where they spent many years camping.
