Mary Hall

October 10, 1951 — April 1, 2026

With hearts bursting with love and sorrow, we announce the passing of beloved wife and mother, Mary Louise Hall (née Stegner), who took her final breath in her cherished Missoula, MT home on April 1, 2026 at the age of 74. Mary was full of unflappable kindness, joy, and tenacity and lived a life overflowing with adoration and consideration for her family and many, many friends.

Mary forged a life centered on love and acceptance, and on fierce devotion to her loved ones. She is survived by her husband and love of her life, Wade Hoyt; her sons, Jonah, Matthew, and Jesse; her stepdaughters, Carrie Johnson and Darcy Weathers; her brothers, Terry Stegner (Sally) and Conrad Stegner (Margaret); her sister, Kay Stegner; her dogs, Dash and Cutter; and her many friends who she loved and accepted as her own.

Born October 10, 1951, in Hayward, CA, Mary fell in love with the city of her parents and grandparents, Missoula, MT and moved there, into her beloved home in 1986. Raising her family there, her life was full of Placid Lake summers, Australian Shepherds, carousel horses, wild children and their friends, and dinners on the porch. When she was nearly done raising her family, Mary enrolled at the University of Montana, receiving her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology. Her education furthered her life’s work: advocating for the full humanity and equitable treatment of children with disabilities.

Family and friends are invited to the memorial service on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Garden City Funeral Home in Missoula. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Missoula Food Bank or the Salvation Army Missoula.
