Matty M. DePriest

September 23, 1926 — March 31, 2021

Matty M DePriest peacefully passed away on March 31, 2021 at The Village Health & Rehabilitation in Missoula, MT.

Born in Bagley, MN on September 23, 1926, she was the fifteenth and youngest child of Ole and Emma Ranisate. She attended a country school and graduated from high school in Bagley.

Matty owned and operated the Kandace Café in Darby, Mt and later a hotel coffee shop in Conrad, MT where she was known for her homemade cinnamon rolls.

Matty married Burton DePriest in 1966. They moved to Alaska where she enjoyed her job a custodian at the Kenai middle school for many years until her retirement. She called many locations home over the years before settling in the mountains of Montana, her favorite place to be.

Her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother; much of what she did and how she spent her time revolved around that role. She enjoyed being a member of the Lutheran Church, baking, sewing, gardening, watching westerns, and entertaining her friends and family. She also made the best lefse.

Matty is survived by her daughter Kandace Hanson, and granddaughters Shaye LaMunyan and Kelsey LaMunyan. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and husband.
