Obituary

Robert “Bob” Lloyd Halverson, born 18 Oct 1945, entered in rest 9 June 2026.

Bob was born in Mankato Minnesota to Elton and Evelyn Halverson. He was the third son, third child of a family of four children. His family moved to Appleton, Wisconsin when he was a young boy, and graduated from Appleton High School in 1964. He enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduation and served in the Vietnam War as an artillery repairman from 1965-1966 participating in Operation Highland, Dagger Thrust, Blue Marlin, and Harvest Moon assigned to the 1st and 3rd Marine Division. He was honorably discharged in 1968 as Staff Sergeant. His decorations include the Vietnam Service medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, and Presidential Unit Commendation Medal.

Bob was introduced to his future wife, Meta Ann Heimerl by his older brother, Don and Meta’s sister, Ann. They were married September 9, 1972 in Mukwonago, WI. Bob worked at Miller Electric manufacturing for 22 years in Wisconsin providing for his growing family, welcoming his two daughters, Amanda and Roberta and supporting Meta’s education to become a Registered Nurse. Bob and Meta decided to move their family to Montana to join his brother Don and Meta’s sister, Ann’s, mountain life. Bob worked as a bus driver and custodian at Bonner Elementary, the local Target store as the maintenance lead and finally, as the maintenance manager for the Higgins Building.

Bob enjoyed hunting, golfing and wood-working in both Wisconsin and Montana. Bob worked hard all his life. He was a kind and loving husband and father – as well as a jokester of a friend to all. Bob was proud of his service in the Marine Corps, and was so proud of his daughters who both served in combat, Amanda who still serves (enlisted and officer) in the Marine Corps, and Roberta who served (officer) in the Army.

Bob was preceded in death by his older brother James. He is survived by his wife Meta, daughter, Amanda and her husband, Ryan Brannon, and their two sons; and daughter, Roberta and her husband, Brett Shepard, and their daughter and four sons.

A memorial service will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bonner June 2027.
