Robert "Bob" Herbert
Hestekind
Aug 22, 1939 — Aug 31, 2026
Robert Herbert Hestekind (Bob), 87, passed away on August 31, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 22, 1939 in Lewellen, Nebraska, the son of Alex and Myrtle Hestekind. Bob met the love of his life Leona (Lee) Banks, in Cody, Wyoming and they married July 23, 1960. They enjoyed 64 years of adventures together, including travel abroad throughout Europe and South America. For many years Bob and Lee were snowbirds, who enjoyed their time in Mesa, Arizona. Bob also enjoyed fly fishing throughout Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Alaska, and even South America. In his lifetime he made 26 fishing expeditions to Alaska with his dear friend Pat Givens. Bob was a passionate fan of the Montana Grizzlies and the Phoenix Suns. He was also a master cribbage player who never gloated about his wins (which were nearly always).
Bob founded his own insurance agency Western Financial Services and worked closely with banks and credit unions throughout Montana. He was devoted to his clients and developed many delightful friendships throughout his career.
Bob's surviving family includes his daughters (son in-laws), Laurie (Burt) Foshag of Missoula, Lynda Patterson of Spokane Valley, WA, Leslie (William) Smith of Seattle, WA; his four grandchildren, Travis Foshag, Kelcie Foshag (Justin Philipps), Shawn Patterson, Alex Patterson; his sister Mary Ann Jenson and brother Jerry Hestekind. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lee Hestekind, parents Alex and Myrtle Hestekind and brother Don Hestekind.
A funeral service at Garden City Funeral Home will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2026, followed by a reception from 11 am to 1 pm. Bob will be laid to rest later that day during a private family service. To honor Bob's love for the Griz, we welcome you to wear your game day attire. Donations in memory of Bob can be made to Missoula Aging Services at 337 Stephens Ave, Missoula, MT 59801 . The family thanks the Missoula medical community for their compassionate care during Bob's final years.
