Robert “Ted” Moulton, age 95, passed away on September 12, 2025. He was born in Ione, Washington on August 5, 1930 to Ivan and Edith Moulton. Ted was the oldest of five siblings. The Moulton family moved often as Ivan followed the timber industry jobs available throughout the Pacific Northwest.
In 1951, Ted was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served until 1954. Eventually promoted to sergeant, his mathematical and organizational aptitude led him to become the company clerk. Those qualities served Ted well for many years as he prepared his own tax returns and taught his children how to prepare their own, as well.
After an honorable discharge, Ted moved to Prineville, Oregon to work at the sawmill, beginning his lifelong career in the lumber industry. He met Mona Lou Stevenson at a dance in the nearby town of Bend. Ted and Mona married on October 23, 1954, and one year later had their first child, Pam. They moved to Missoula, Montana soon after, where they had two more children, Terry and Mark.
For 32 years, Ted worked as head sawyer at Intermountain Lumber Company’s mill in Missoula. When the mill closed down, Ted retired and took the opportunity to spend more time in the great outdoors. A seasoned outdoorsman, Ted loved few things more than hunting and fishing.
Ted also enjoyed playing cribbage and in 1983 he won the Montana State Cribbage Championship. A longtime bowler, he rolled a perfect 300 game in 1988. In 1999, Ted was inducted into the USBC Bowling Hall of Fame for both Missoula and Montana.
Ted was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Mona Lou Moulton exactly one month earlier; his parents, Ivan and Edith; his brothers, Lyle “Hap” and Jerry; and his sisters, Jean and Joan.
Ted is survived by his children, Pam Guschausky, Terry Milleson (Jim), and Mark Moulton (Linda); his grandchildren, Jeremy, Brianne, Andrew, and Shane; and his great grandchildren, Jasmine, Jordyn, Tyler, Hennessy, and Harrison.
A service will be held on October 24, 2025. Details will be available soon.
