Robert E Quade

Robert Eugene Quade, Sr., 90, passed away peacefully at the Village Senior Residence on July 12, 2026. Robert, "Bob," was born in Beach, North Dakota to Adolph and Agnes (Bruski) Quade. He was raised in Wibaux, Montana, in the close-knit farming community of Saint Phillips.

Robert spoke often and lovingly of his life on the Quade farm and in the town of Wibaux. He loved riding tractors and told his father to "Go 'saster,' Daddy! 'Saster!' (faster). He lettered in football and basketball in high school and was athletic and active well into his 80s.

He left Wibaux to serve two years in the Army as a military policeman in Alaska. Upon his discharge from the Army, he attended college in Bizmark, North Dakota for a time. On break back in Wibaux he met his future bride, Barbara (Hall) Quade. They married and started a family and an adventure that would take them to Denver, CO, Billings, MT, Las Vegas, NV, Helena, MT, Butte, MT, Orofino, ID, Colville, WA, then to Missoula, MT. Robert took his family back to Wibaux every summer to visit his parents and the farm, sometimes more often. And to visit Barbara's parents too, who lived in town.

Robert finished college in Billings then worked as an investigator for the Civil Service. He joined the U.S. Forest Service in Las Vegas then eventually worked as a Region 1 Personnel Manager in Missoula. He retired in May of 1993. After he retired, he drove Forest Service 10-ton trucks to forest fire base camps for a few years.

Robert's hobbies included playing guitar and singing duets with Barbara at events early in their marriage. They both had wonderful singing voices. He and Barbara also traveled the world with friends and went on motorcycle trips together. They both volunteered with the Red Cross. They also had season tickets to Griz football for many years and very much enjoyed attending the games. Robert thoroughly enjoyed traveling to car auctions with Barbara or a friend and buying cars then selling them back in Missoula. He enjoyed playing poker with friends, skiing and being on the Ski Patrol in Washington and Montana, going to the Adams Center to watch the Lady Griz play for many seasons, and being a reader and greeter among other things at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church. He was a Police Commissioner in Missoula for many years. He especially loved to play golf regularly, and did so in Scotland too, and he hit a hole-in-one at Larchmont Golf Course in Missoula on March 26, 2008!

His family fondly remembers his sense of humor. At the end of a recent visit to the ER, he stood up in front of the attending physician and said, "What's wrong with you, Doctor, is... you're taller than me!" (Robert was 6 feet 2 inches).

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, and their son, Robert "Bobby" Quade, Jr. He is survived by his daughters, Denice Quade Susen (Peter) and Julie Parks, his granddaughters Brittney Parks, Amanda Parks, Helena Susen Brooks (Cody), Olivia Susen (fiancé Drew Herin), and his great grandchildren Jace Ethridge, Autumn Rose Parks, and Addison Brooks.

A Mass and funeral for Robert will be held on August 7, 2026, at 11am at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church. Reception to follow in the church's reception room, then military honors at the Sunset Cemetery, then burial in the mausoleum there.
