Robert E. Sheridan passed away on June 8, 2025, at the family home in Missoula, Montana. Bob was born to Doris and Robert on October 30th, 1942, in Butte, Montana. After graduating from Butte Central High School, Bob followed his sister Connie, who was attending college in South Bend, Indiana, to attend the University of Notre Dame. Bob graduated Cum Laude in 1964 with a degree in Finance. As a student, he developed what became a lifelong passion for Notre Dame Irish football!
Bob returned home to Montana to attend the University of Montana Law School, it was there he met the love of his life and his wife, Elaine "Kay" Bradley, who together they enjoyed 59-years of marriage. Together Bob and Kay raised three children; daughters, Kelly (Buck), Arlee, MT, and Kara (Nalin), Edmonds, WA; and son, Robb (Amy), Spokane, WA. Bob practiced law for over 30 years with the firm Garlington, Lohn, & Robinson. Bob was a very skilled and talented lawyer. Colleagues and fellow lawyers described him as a consummate professional-skilled, highly competent, and a pleasure to work with. "He's the kind of guy who could absolutely kick your butt in a case-but he's just hard not to like." He was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers due to his ethical and moral standards, character, and professionalism. Those honored represent the top 1% of trial lawyers in each state. Bob was always active in the community and had a longtime association with the Missoula County United Way where he has served both as President of the Board of Directors and Campaign Director for their annual fund drive. Bob was a member of the Advisory Board for St. Patrick Hospital and also served on the Board of Trustees for Missoula County High Schools. Bob was a successful and respected high school basketball referee and honored with induction into the Montana Officials Association Hall of Fame. His passion for Grizzly Athletics never waned and he was the "go to guy" for the athletic program dating back to the 1970's while being on many search committees for Grizzly athletic directors and coaches. Bob served several terms on the board of the Grizzly Athletic Association at the University of Montana and was past president of both the Missoula and State chapters. He was a member of the Quarterback Club, Roundball Club, Lady Griz Hoop Club, and Board Member and President of the Grizzly Scholarship Association. Bob and Kay were longtime season ticket holders for football and men's and women's basketball games. He was an instrumental leader of the men's basketball tournament in the 1980's known as the "Champions International Holiday Tournament".
Bob was immensely proud of his family heritage on both sides. Together, he and Kay dedicatedly put all three of their children through university. They did so out of love and a commitment to helping pave the way for their prosperous futures. It was something they both embraced, a beautiful gift none of their children would ever forget.
Bob and Kay lived a full life together, enjoying traveling to Hawaii, the Calgary Stampede, family trips to Seeley Lake, Big Sky, Flathead Lake, Whitefish, Canada Disneyland, Alaska, and many other states. Aside from traveling, his passions were family, working out, golfing, kayaking, Coffee Club, maintaining the yard, and having a good meal with family and friends. He was also notorious for his generosity and gift giving, usually Griz Gear! Among his family and friends Bob was known for his strong Catholic beliefs, acceptance of others, sense of humor, integrity, honesty, and his love to laugh.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife-Kay, sister-Connie and his three children. Bob was blessed to have six grandchildren he adored; Robbie, Sheridan, Grace, Hadley, Emerson, and Jace. Bob loved his Yorkshire Terrier, "Guy" who will miss him dearly. To his family, he was their hero. He was always there when they needed him. When things got tough, they simply knew, "We got Dad."
A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 10:30 am at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with a reception to follow.
