Missoula

Ron Marcum passed away on February 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy rooted in devotion, loyalty, and deep family pride.

A proud native of Butte, Montana, Ron was a 1965 graduate of Butte High School and never missed an opportunity to let people know where he was from. Butte was part of who he was - its strength, resilience, and strong sense of community lived on in him throughout his life.

Ron proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. His time in the military was a chapter of his life he carried with quiet pride, reflecting his enduring sense of duty, discipline, and commitment - qualities that remained evident in all he did.

Following his military service, Ron dedicated his career to the paper mill in Missoula, Montana, where he worked faithfully until his retirement. His strong work ethic, reliability, and pride in providing for his family were evident throughout his many years there. He built lasting friendships and earned the respect of those he worked alongside.

Above all else, Ron loved his family. Being with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren meant more to him than anything in the world. He was a devoted father to Paul Marcum; Joseph Marcum and his wife, Sharon Marcum; Karey Bodak and her partner, Richard Hedgeoke; Michael Bodak; and Richard Porter-Smith and his wife, Lindsey Porter-Smith. His steady presence, guidance, and unconditional love shaped their lives in countless ways.

Ron was an incredibly proud grandfather to Colby Marcum, Sheyenne Standard, Kale Marcum, Kaden Marcum, Garrett Marcum, Tawney Spence-Darrow, and Reece Doney. He was the kind of grandpa who showed up - to games, celebrations, milestones, and everyday moments. His grandchildren knew they could count on him for support in everything they pursued.

His legacy continues through his beloved great-grandchildren: Taelynn Mae Darrow, Kennedy Jane Doney, Dawson, Dublin, Levi Standard, and Alex Standard. They brought him immeasurable joy and pride, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

Ron cherished time with his lifelong friends, especially on the golf course and during spirited games of Pitch at the Silver Slipper. Summer weekends at the lake with lifelong family friends Ed and Lynn Poitras, along with their children, were among his happiest times. Those gatherings were filled with laughter, stories, and the kind of memories that last for generations.

He also made it a priority to stay connected with his many cousins, maintaining close family ties that meant so much to him. Ron believed deeply in family values, kindness, loyalty, and showing up for the people you love - principles he instilled in everyone around him.

A lifelong Montana Grizzlies and Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Ron rarely missed a game and cheered on his teams with unwavering loyalty.

Ron will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His kind heart, steady presence, unwavering support, and deep love for family leave a lasting imprint that will continue to guide and inspire those he leaves behind.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, March 29 at 4pm at the Silver Slipper. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Ron Marcum's name to the Food Bank of Missoula, where he generously volunteered his time in service to the community he loved.
