Cmdr. Roy L. Foote, USCG Retired, of Superior, passed away on December 31, 2025, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula of natural causes at the age of 87.
Roy was born May 8, 1938, and was adopted by Gen. Louis and Marianne Foote in St. Louis, Missouri. Roy moved between Army bases throughout his childhood until his father retired to Forest Grove, Oregon, where Roy attended high school.
He went to college in Oregon, attending classes at both Oregon State University and the University of Oregon. While in Eugene, he met his future wife Patsy on a blind date.
Roy left college and joined the Coast Guard, but he ended up calling Patsy from boot camp to propose. They lived all around the U.S., including Oakland, CA; Kodiak, AK; Seattle, WA; Key West, FL; New Orleans, LA; and Warrenton, VA. Roy served his country for a tour in Vietnam, running river patrols.
After retiring from 26 years in the Coast Guard, Roy and Patsy settled in Superior to raise Morgan horses, to fulfill Roy's dream of becoming a cowboy, and to be closer to Patsy's family.
Roy L. Foote is survived by his wife Patsy, his daughter Christina (Alan) Burnett, his son Roy H. Foote, grandchildren Stephanie Pierce, Ben van der Harst, James Foote, and Elena "Cypress" Burnett, and three great grandchildren.
Services will be performed by Gray Repke at Superior Community Church on January 16 at 11 am. The family encourages donations to the Wounded Warrior Project in lieu of flowers.
