Susan O'Neil

April 15, 1949 — November 8, 2024

Susan K. O’Neil-Stage passed away unexpectedly on November 8, 2024, leaving behind a deep sense of shock and sorrow among all who knew and loved her.

Born April 15, 1949, and raised in Missoula, Sue attended Lowell Grade School and graduated from Hellgate High School. She went on to build a remarkable 44-year career in banking, beginning in the lower levels of First National Bank (now First Interstate Bank) and rising to the respected position of Senior Trust Officer. Tireless in her pursuit of knowledge and professionalism, Sue embraced every opportunity to grow, earning the admiration of colleagues and clients alike.

Grounded and practical, Sue lived her life with quiet purpose, but never missed an opportunity to celebrate the moments that mattered. She and her husband Bob, cherished family time and created lasting memories on trips with their children and grandchildren to California-- especially if a Dodgers game was involved and even the occasional Dallas Cowboys game. In retirement, Sue and Bob enjoyed golfing and gathering with friends at the Missoula Country Club, often extending the golf season with winter getaways to Arizona.

Sue was committed to her community and gave generously of her time. She was a long-time member of Kiwanis Club of Missoula, an active participant in trust and banking organizations, and a valued voice on the Missoula Country Club’s finance committee. Her presence was a steady, positive force in both professional and civic circles.

Sue was predeceased by her parents, Norm and Mable Stewart, and her brothers Jack and Leonard Stewart. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Stage; daughters Shannon Stage (Patrick) and Sherri Stage (Mike); brother-in-law Tom Stage; grandchildren Clay Lindsay (Fe), and Taylor Lindsay; nieces Jan and Donna Stewart; and a wide circle of friends who will miss her dearly.

Sue’s legacy of quiet strength, loyalty, and love will live on in all who were lucky enough to know her.

A Celebration of Sue’s life will be held at the Missoula Country Club on May 17th from 2:00 to 5:00 with Celebration of Life Remembrance speakers at 2:30.
