Obituary for Vincent Keiley

MISSOULA - Vincent R. Keiley, age 86, of Missoula, died of natural causes Sunday, November. 30, 2008, at St. Patrick Hospital.





Vincent R. Keiley was born October. 17, 1922, in Deer Lodge, to Remy and May Boyle Keiley. He was the youngest of five children; Jack, Anne, Rita, and Joe. He was raised on a ranch at Nevada Creek and graduated from Cathedral High School in Helena in 1940.





He served in World War II, in the Navy, on the USS Independence at Marcus Island, near the Japenese Group at Midway Island, then to Bougainville where they went under air attack. They were part of the invasion of the Gilbert/Marshall Islands and were hit by a torpedo near Tarawa. Vince then served on CASU 13 in the Admiralty Islands and finally Guam before his honorable discharge. He returned to Helena and attended Carroll College. He worked at Elk River Concrete for 10 years and the Montana Department of Highways for 28 years.





In 1959, Vince married Ruth McEachran. They raised four children; Michael (Jackie) of Boise, Idaho, Mary (Ethan) Rogers of Seattle, and Jean and Patrick of Missoula.





Vince was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.





He was unconditional in his love for his family and his faith. He will truly be missed.





He is survived by his wife; children; and four grandsons, Ben, Kevin, Casey and Sean.





After many years in Helena, Vince and Ruth moved to Missoula in 2002, to be close to family.





Vigil services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, December. 3, at Livingston-Malletta, & Geraghty Funeral Home. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Western Montana Veterans Cemetery in Missoula.
