Violet Zachariason

d. October 6, 2025

Violet “Vi” Zachariasen, 95, passed away peacefully of natural causes on October 6, 2025, in Missoula, Montana, surrounded by family and love.

Vi was born on January 14, 1930, in Hazen, North Dakota, to Henry and Martha Loewen. She grew up in a lively household as one of thirteen children and graduated from Missoula County High School.

In 1949, she married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Zachariasen. Together, they shared more than 65 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on family, faith, and tradition. Deeply devoted to her faith, Vi attended several churches throughout her life, always finding strength and purpose in her spiritual journey.

Vi’s many passions reflected her vibrant and joyful personality. She loved reading, gardening, baking, camping, watching football and game shows, and spending time on the Oregon Coast. She especially cherished attending performances at the Missoula Children’s Theater. Holidays were a special delight for Vi — she took great joy in decorating, tending to her flower gardens, and hosting gatherings for her large and loving family. Above all, she found her greatest happiness as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Family and friends will forever remember Vi for her loving nature, spunky spirit, generosity, and unwavering devotion. She faithfully upheld family traditions and offered endless care and kindness to those around her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Martha Loewen; her beloved husband, Bob; and all twelve of her siblings.

Vi is survived by her three children: Ron (Carla) of Arlee, Michael (Debbie) of Missoula, and Darlene (Leo) Gallagher of Helena; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her cherished lifelong friend, Karen Wraith.

A celebration of Vi’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor her memory by spending time with loved ones, tending a garden, or gathering with family — just as Vi loved to do.

The family extends a heartfelt thank-you to the staff at Beehive Homes for their compassionate and loving care.
